Saturn in the Houses

Saturn is a misunderstood planet. It is a feared planet. It should be, in some instances, because Saturn can do a number on one’s self esteem. This can occur if Saturn is conjunct one’s Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury or Venus. However, conversely, Saturn can give staying power when placed in positive configurations. Saturn can help you to finish that degree, climb the corporate ladder of success or, simply, stay in a marriage which has become routine( and they all do). Saturn gives self discipline in positive doses. Saturn gives self doubt and self flagellation, in negative doses. Certain aspects are positive doses. Other aspects are negative doses.Hence, Saturn is a mixed bag.

To make it practical. Think of wanting to eat a whole, chocolate cheesecake. Jupiter will tell you to enjoy yourself. Saturn will tell you that you will feel sick later and your cute, new dress won’t be able to be zipped. Hence, Saturn comes through for us when we need discipline.

Jupiter will tell you to gamble. Saturn will tell you to save.

Jupiter will tell you to have a fling with that cute guy. Saturn will tell you that you have a loyal boyfriend at home.

I hope this gives a sense of Saturn in both it’s positive and negative applications. Now, we will move onto the Houses.

Saturn in the Houses
1st House
Saturn in the 1st House is a strong Saturn. Depending on aspects, one may be very disciplined or one may have low self esteem. Saturn in trine and sextile confers discipline. Saturn in square, conjunction and opposition may result in lack of confidence and self esteem.

2nd House

This is mine. This has not made for a lack of financial resources but, instead, a fear of losing them. I did not understand how I had Saturn in the 2nd House because I have never suffered from a lack of material resources. Some people say that Saturn in the 2nd House is a lack of self esteem. I have pondered this long and hard and I do not subscribe to it. I think it is taking the natural order of the Zodiac and adding elements that are not there. I think it is a stretch too far. I think the 2nd House is material resources and material resources, only.Although, I have never been without material resources, I do have a deep fear of this, which must explain my Saturn in the 2nd House.

3rd House

This Saturn placement may engender a fear of self expression. That is what I have seen in doing charts. The native may feel very shy about expressing his opinions. He may hold back. He may hem and haw. When he does express himself, he may feel as if it has the fear of jumping from a high diving board.

4th house
This Saturn placement seems to indicate a cold, early home. The mother may, particularly, be the parent with whom one had a cold, distant and/or critical relationship.

5th House

This seems like one of the hardest for me. This is due to the fact that creativity was always my escape from a painful home. This native may feel very shy in expressing his creative and fun loving side. Expressing affection may be hard for him, as well.

6th House

This native may have chronic health issues. I have seen this in charts of people with allergies, migraine headaches or other chronic health issues. Conversely, this placement may make for a person who feels insecure in being able to provide services of a helping nature to others.

7th House

This is another hard Saturn aspect, although I wonder if labeling placements as hard is subjective. It may be. This Saturn placement may make marriage hard. It may show a delay in getting married, as well.

8th House

I think this is a harder Saturn placement. This native may find it very painful to face her dark side. This may be seen in a person who is “fake chirpy”. We all have a dark side. Accepting it is the only way to find the light, so jump in and embrace the dark. It will not be as scary as you think. This statement could embody Jung in Chinese fortune cookie.

9th House

This native may find it hard to find God. The 9th House is the House of the spiritual. It is, also, the House of Higher education. I have seen natives will this placement denied college in cases in which they deeply desired a college education.

10th House

These natives seem to have delays in career. They may, also, have had a difficult relationship with their fathers. Also, they may feel as if they do not have an easy fit into the general society, for some reason.

11th House

Someone close to me with this placement sparked my interest in writing this article. Groups are very hard for him. He feels left out. He feels afraid that groups will gang up on him and humiliate him. Saturn in the 11th can be someone who finds groups to be very scary. n.

12th House

A 12th House planet is, always, the hardest, in my opinion. The planet must be ten degrees away from the Ascendent to be considered 12th House. However, if it is a true 12th House planet, it will be a challenge throughout life.

Saturn in the 12th seems to be the position of the child pressing his nose against the window pane while other children are playing in a group outside. This sense of loneliness and not feeling a part of the group seems to remain throughout life.
